Africa Matters Initiative (AMI) Her Environment, Her Future Program

What is Africa Matters Initiative (AMI): A youth-led organization that aims to empower and upskill young Africans in order to change their communities & African narrative through leadership, social entrepreneurship, and advocacy.

Her Environment, Her Future is a four-month, non-residential youth leadership and virtual advocacy program for young women from Africa fighting against climate change. The program is focused on leadership, personal development, climate education, policy engagement, advocacy, green and social entrepreneurship, and effective communication. At the end of the program, participants will be equipped with tools, context, and understanding of how to tangibly change their communities, countries, and regions under three overarching themes:

  1. Personal Development
  2. Advocacy and Leadership in the Climate change sector.
  3. Networking and collaboration for impact.

Program participants will emerge with a strong network of young women leaders and certificates of participation. They will also develop a deeper understanding of how to support climate-focused justice and advocacy in their communities, gaining the ability to transfer these skills to community members.

For the 2024 cohort, we are looking for 20 young women and girls aged 16-29 from the following countries: Malawi, Ghana, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Tunisia, and Sierra Leone.

Please note in Section E you will be required to make a short video of 3 minutes in length, briefly explaining a bit about yourself and how you believe this program will benefit your personal and professional development. Please follow the upload instructions carefully! Your application will not be considered if we cannot assess your video submission. Applicants with videos exceeding 3 minutes will be penalized.

Key Dates

Applications open on Wednesday, 19 June 2024 at 12:00pm CAT and close on Sunday 14 July 2024 at 11:59 pm CATThe application should take you about 45 minutes to an hour to complete.

The tentative announcement and selection of the 20 HEHF Leaders will be made during the week of 29 July 2024.

The non-residential youth leadership and virtual advocacy program will officially start the week of 12 August 2024 and end the week of 9 December 2024.
