NerdzFactory Foundation partners with Access corporation to improve Employability and Digital skills among Nigerian Youth.

About 1000 young Nigerians have been impacted through the Youth Transition Program, an initiative of the Access Corporation in collaboration with NerdzFactory Foundation to equip youth with the skills needed to transition into work and business. This program was tailored to equip them with employability and digital skills to become more employable and also be able to create jobs for themselves, thereby providing them access to economic opportunities.

The Youth Transition Program was designed with a comprehensive approach to provide tips needed for professional development and advancement. This included an in-depth training on Digital marketing skills, soft skills, and digital skills, which were all highlighted throughout the program as they are crucial for success in today’s job.

As part of the program, a one-day employability skill workshop was held at the University of Lagos, Afe- Babalola Auditorium, on Monday, January 30th 2023, with a panel session that held conversations to enhance the job skills for the 21st-century workplace and help young people to advance their careers. The workshop had in attendance young top notch career experts across Lagos and students from the university.

While addressing the program attendees, Program Manager NerdzFactory Foundation, Thelma Eweama, said that the essence of the Youth Transition Program is to empower youths through employability and digital skills to bridge the unemployment gap. “The program is an opportunity to equip youths with digital and employability skills for the 21st-century workplace.”

Ade’ Olowojoba, Director at NerdFactory Foundation, posited that the country is at a critical stage where the number of unemployed youth does not match the number of economic opportunities available in the country. “We have to be deliberate in equipping young people in Nigeria to enable them to thrive both in Nigeria and anywhere around the world”.

Speaking at the event, one of the panellists, Jessica Felix-Orji, senior product manager in a leading tech organisation, employed attendees to hone the skill of storytelling and give to learning at every point in time.” Ensure you are someone that gives learning, as this will form your experience over the time and learn the ability to tell your story effectively. This is important”.

Also at the event were representatives from Access Corporation, the program sponsor and the NerdzFactory Foundation team members.

The Youth Transition Program has also sensitised over 400 youth across Nigeria on the right skills they need to transition into work and business through a series of webinars tagged “Prosperity Skill Webinar”. The 3-series webinars were held virtually on Wednesday, December 28th 2022, Wednesday, January 4th 2023 and Wednesday, January 11th 2023 respectively. Ultimately, the Youth Transition Program organised a 2-week Digital Marketing Bootcamp for 100 youth across the Nation. The training started on Monday, January 23rd 2023, and to Friday, February 3rd 2023, with core training on Digital marketing and soft skill sessions that covered communication skills, emotional intelligence, time management, digital skill, and growth mindset, among others.
